Frequently Asked Questions

1. After completing HNC for a year or two, do we need to take an examination to qualify for HND?
Ans: No.
2. How many years is allowed to be the gap from HNC to HND?

Ans: 3 years and maximum

3. Should we be residing in the Philippines when we enroll?

Ans: No.

4. The courses run from September (current year) to August (following year), are<br /> there idle months in between?

Ans: Yes, registration is in August and classes starts in September which will run for 12 Saturdays per term.

5. Are recordings available to absentee students?

Ans: Yes, but only for a limited time (1 week).

6. I understand there will be no examinations, what will be the grading system?
Ans: Grading will be based on the assessment for the given assignments.
7. On scholarship, will it be fully funded?
Ans: We will be awarding 3 scholarships (quarter, half and full) but applicable only to full HND programmeparticipants.
8. Do you have partnerships with the local QS companies? What are the chances of getting employed with these companies?

Ans: We have partnership with Philippine Constructors Association (PCA) who has 1500 member contracting companies. We also have strong collaboration with about 20 (small to big) QS firms in the Philippines that we will sign MoUs to allow our students to have their OJTs and possible future employment.

9. Are the assignments completed individually or by group?
Ans: Assignments can be by individual or by group, subject to the instructor’s requirement but there is one Pearson-set project for individual within HNC and another Pearson-set project for group within HND.
10. Is the registration fee included in the tuition fee?
Ans: Yes.
11. What is the difference between HNC/HND and PICQS Think Tank Training (P3T) and PICQS APC Programme (PAP1)?
Ans: PICQS has a range of trainings for Members and Non-Members. For Members, the Structured Training programmeis a 4-level training programmethat will lead to an APC. These are P3T (Level 1), PAP1 (Level 2), GaMP(Level 3) and PAP2 (Level 4).

P3T is for those who are already practisingQS and needs an underpinning knowledge in Quantity Surveying. This course is a total of 30 lecture hours with 14 topics.

PAP1 is the application part of applying the principles learned from P3T. This is a 30 lecture hours of 10 topics.

The PICQS Academy offers the Pearson BTEC qualifications of HNC and HND in QS and this is a formal education recognized internationally. After HND, one can progress to Bachelor’s Degree in QS through a top up programmeoffered by a UK university in partnership with PICQS Academy.

HNC is Level 4 with 1200 study hours and HND is Level 5 with 2400 study hours.

12. After the August registration, when do we start paying for the first monthly due?
Ans: First monthly payment will be by end of October.
13. For the past HNC passers, which subjects are credited to the new curriculum?
Ans: The credited subjects will be Construction Technology, Procurement & Tendering and Quantification & Costing of Works.
14. Can we enroll in HND without taking the HNC?
Ans: No, as HNC is Level 4 while HND is Level 5 from the Pearson programme.
15. I enrolled to HNC but later decided to proceed with HND, will the tuition be restructured?
Ans: The fee for a stand-alone HNC and a stand-alone HND is different compared to a full HND programme.
16. After taking the HND, can we proceed to take the PICQS’ Assessment of Professional Competency (APC)?
Ans: After HNC, a graduate who has at least 5 years of work experience can enroll in the APC and proceed with Level 3 (GaMP) of the PICQS Structured Training programmeand is also eligible to upgrade to Associate Member grade.
17. There were subjects marked as optional, are there additional fees to be paid?
Ans: There is no additional fee for the optional subjects. Thesesubjects are included in the tuition fee.
18. When will the scholarship selection process start?
Ans: Upon receipt of all enrollment registration.
19. From which factors will the scholarship selection be based on?
Ans: The selection criteria for the scholarship will be based on the academic standing, financial capability and the answers to the essay questions which includes a brief background of the student.
20. When do the classes start?
Ans: Classes starts in September and ends in August the following year (3
terms) with a 2-week break after each term.
21. What is the maximum number of days one is allowed to be absent?
Ans: 3 days for each term.
22. Will students of PICQS Academy be automatically become Members of PICQS?
Ans: PICQS Academy students are automatically admitted as StudentMembers but with limited benefits compared to PICQS’ professional members.

However, if the student has at least 2 years work experience or has 1year work experience under the supervision of a corporate member of a QS organization (MPICQS, MRICS, MAIQS, MNZIQS, PQS of CIQS), the student is encouraged to apply as a Technical Member of PICQS.

23. What if I decided to withdraw from the course?
Ans: Upon registration, you can withdraw 80% of the fee within 7 days but
during the course run, there will be a no refund policy.
